Finally, a single regional symposium will be offered as an
additional opportunity September 23rd - 25th for practitioners to gain
continuing education credits. It is fully intended that this
General Symposium will provide exceptional information with a
decidedly practical focus so as to best benefit the equine practitioner. A
basic scientific program including Reproduction,
Lameness,
Podiatry, Nutrition, Internal Medicine & Equine Vet-Tech will be introduce
in 2010.
· For
those states in which a veterinary college operates (MA – Tufts University, NY –
Cornell University, PA – University of Pennsylvania, VA/MD – Virginia
Tech/University of Maryland), the NEAEP has begun to organize a Student Outreach Day to
foster relationships with those veterinary colleges, students with an equine
interest, and local equine practitioners. This program offers an unparalleled
opportunity for equine-oriented veterinary students to visit local equine
practices, where they are given the opportunity for hands-on experiences in
techniques such as nerve and/or joint blocks (anatomy), rectal examination
(gastrointestinal and reproductive), and diagnostic imaging (radiographs and
ultrasound), among other topics. This program represents a “win-win” situation
for local practitioners, as they gain the opportunity to meet future
veterinarians who may represent possible candidates for an internship program or
a new associate position.
